Mike Watson

Director, Livable Communities, AARP

As Director of Livable Communities, Mike works closely with AARP’s 53 state offices and key stakeholders to encourage communities to be more livable for all ages. He leads a team that supports the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities; delivers direct technical assistance; publishes free publications; equips mayors and local officials with resources; and delivers livability grants through the AARP Community Challenge. Before his current role, Mike helped advance AARP’s livability work by leading the AARP Community Challenge and AARP’s mayoral engagement work and served as an advisor to AARP's chief advocacy and engagement officer, providing strategic advice on retirement policy, family caregiving and livable communities. Before joining AARP, Mike served as a lobbyist for an advocacy organization focused on older adults. He holds a bachelor's degree from Wingate University, a master's in public policy from the University of Maryland and a professional certificate in municipal finance from the University of Chicago.
